HFGD is dedicated to all aspects of garden design with a focus on regenerative landscapes and garden conservation. We approach each landscape as living and evolving art, with respect to the unique complexities of the land and our relationship to it. We encourage the productive and engaging relationships that result from client and design team collaborations.

Mr. Formby has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of garden design with a specialized focus on regenerative landscapes, horticulture and conservation. As a Senior Design Associate with Nancy Goslee Power & Associates in Santa Monica, California he led the design of the plant palette for Kidspace Museum in Pasadena and for Intercity Arts in downtown Los Angeles, now designated a wildlife sanctuary. Designed a Weaver’s Garden at the LA County Arboretum, utilizing California Native plants traditionally used for weaving and dye by California Indigenous tribes. He studied garden design at the University of California Los Angeles, San Francisco State University and with the Rancho Santa Anna Botanical Garden Botany and Horticulture program. He is current Chair of the Tree Advisory Committee for the City of Petaluma, has a certificate in Permaculture Design and is a Certified Sustainable Landscape Designer with the city of Santa Monica.
